Placed

Bath Spa University did a call out in January to propose a pop-up show in a shopping unit right in the centre of Bath. They entitled the two week exhibition 'Work Ethic' It aided to bring together a group of artists from across disciplines that are engaged with 'process' as an integral part of their practice. Instead of an exhibition that presents a collection of finished works, the intention was to present a space in which the artists journey is made visible. With “making” as a central theme this show will explore the artists’ relationship to “work”. For the duration of the two-week exhibition the audience will be presented with a space filled with the sights and sounds of production. They will witness “process” live and in a constant state of change.

Placed was formed by looking through my camera’s viewfinder; in particular the circular target zone that is seen in the viewfinder as you take a photo. Here I have blown the repetitive pattern seen in the viewfinder out of proportion and placed it over an enlarged image of a passer-by that I shot within the vicinity of Milsom Place. To recreate the image on a larger-scale, I selected and photographed the necessary colours needed to rebuild the digital image from objects and people within this workspace. Once printed and processed, I wanted to show the public the physical act of cutting each pixilated area and bring the photo back into its analogue origins by sticking each colour onto the circular board.

Bath School of Art and Design: Photography Department.

The photography guys at uni put out a proposal for submissions of images to go on display in the photography windows. Using back lit paper I thought it was important to incorporate light as a running theme for the image I wanted to submit. This is the final outcome. Can't complain!!!

'Exposd' re-visited

I liked the outcome of my tri-series behind perspex (shown at Walcot Chapel March/ April 2011) however I wasn't happy with the quality of them. So therefore I re-visited them, and went back to the same spot and re-photographed them with a Nikon D90. I'm so pleased with the outcome of these, they're a much higher quality.

The London Tourist

I took to London on a sunny day in 2011. The group I was with decided to go on a duck tour I took this opportunity, instead of photographing landmarks, to photograph persons. These are only initial attempts and I plan to continue this idea..I particularly like the guard!

'Light'

This image originated when I participated in Fringe Arts Bath (FAB) photomarathon. You can follow the link to my FAB networking site. They give us a date and a meeting point in Bath and there's a small fee to pay on the day (for development purposes) You then get handed a score card of 20 single descriptive words. This particular one hit the criteria: "Light" It's only after the event did I appreciate this shot, as the day is packed full! You hunt around bath trying to find the perfect shot and it has to be in order of the scorecard, so the organisers can relate to which shot you were trying to get! The work then got displayed at the Officers Club Bath in an exhibition with the rest of FAB activities 2011 [pictured above]
