MORRISONS

Thank you Morrison's for helping provide some of our goodies for our first fundraising event! After presentations the girls arranged and headed off to Morrisons to get the supplies. We worked the maths and then with Sophie's discount card we were on our way!!! Lets hope it goes well...

We guessed the amount of custom we would get over the range of two days. We then double the amount of rashers (so that we weren't tight!) Fortunately there was an offer 2 for 1! (8 rashers per packet) Then Sophie enlightened us of Morrisons bread department.... Having asking charitiable donations from Morrisons and declined we went for their 2 for 1 buns (packs of 4) only to be offered yesterday that what bread we need....half will be added extra free!!! Effectively for each pack we got 3 free!!! Good work Sophie and Morrisons!! Thank you!!!

Originally, when we set out to design this we openly said we should go away design our ideas, bring back the next week and then we'll discuss. Due to a rushed session a week later it came to the decision to use all designs people created. Personally..after a weeks thought I wasn't happy with that conclusion. I feel that brings out a confused message to the audience. People might think that there's multiple sales going on at the same time! Plus when it comes to the actual exhibition people might think we're incompetent to make a decision so i suggested the middle ground. Merging elements of each person's design into one. Here's the result. I played around with various positioning of the words but i think this came out best! Well..i hope so. I achieved this by scanning, cutting and pasting through photoshop. Ella and I then headed up to Sion, photocopied and plastered the walls!!! :)

2009: Hunting the pheonix exhibition - floorplan

I know this is old stuff. But I thought a bit of archiving wouldn't be a bad idea. I also helped out with this exhibition. A collaboration between Artisjustaword and OVADA. Here is the floor plan I designed. I had such an amazing experience working on this show. My cousin was involved, as well as Sam Zealey and co-founder to AIJAW Matt Clark. The pair have both been apart of the BBC series: School of Saacthi. (2009) Here's a quick link to sum up the experience:

At the time he was working as an art handler. He was fantastic at putting up the exhibition!

Sequential images of 'movement' through the Oxford Town Hall are abstracted and moulded into an inter-weaving of fragmented time and space.

The Town Hall is an archetypal institution. Its architecture and decoration were once the mis en scene for authority, though today they read as a strange mix of former glory and a parochial insignificance in the shadow of global precedence. Simmering amongst the hallways of administrational treasures lie low-budget fantasies of catastrophe in which the icons of order are engulfed from below in an unstoppable tide of full-fat milk.

fantastic CCTV esq take on the world of the town hall. Show's similar interest in the work I'm doing at the moment. Tom interestingly takes photos and then films the still. It gives them that static grainy feel. He's then spilt milk over the images and watched them flood the screen. There's no point crying over spilt milk?

SPOTLIGHT: Fern Thomas (main hall) - images for OVADA's website

Struck by the contradictory spaces of the opulent Main Hall and the dark, hidden away Cells this work draws attention to opposite spaces, the roles they would have played during their history and the people who would   have inhabited them. Using the sound of a bell to fill both spaces, they are unified in one action. The Tingshas (Tibetan Cymbals) are traditionally used in Buddhist practice to clear a space and to reach into the four corners of a room. Slowed down in the editing process  the sound of the bell is drawn out, offering a space for reflection, and alluding to a sense of the Town Hall’s history.

I designed the e-flyer and poster:

Beautiful image don't you think? This is the first time Oxford town hall has opened it's doors to such an event. OVADA has co-orrdinated 7 artists to take over certain unique sites of the building. They have then responded to the space.

Christmas stalls are also being set up in the town hall. (OVADA have set up one with chutneys, sugars and biscuits!) It's a city wide event...thousands of people attend!!!

I'm on the board of directors of this art organisation in Oxford. I love it. I help in certain areas and recently I've come up with the new Stammtisch logo. An event that goes on every last thursday of the month, at the moment board members take on a evening at the pub and conduct discussions. (mine's next year where I team up with the arts co-ordinator - Lucy Phillips) The first one was a  pub quiz and TOMORROW is a discussion of art verses the science.
